1. What is the purpose of this document?

Compare More Limited is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information and we comply with relevant data protection law. We are registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office, under registration number ZB928217.

This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal information about you in accordance with the Data Protection Act (2018) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

It applies to all users of our service, whether that be via the website, telephone or in person.

Compare More is classed as a "data controller". This means that we are responsible for deciding how we hold and use personal information about you. We are required under data protection legislation to notify you of the information contained in this privacy notice.

It is important that you read this document so that you are aware of how and why we are using such information and what your rights are under the data protection legislation.

This notice may be updated on occasion, and you should always check you are reading the latest version (this one is dated September 2025).

2. Data protection principles

Personal data means any information about you by which you can be identified – for example your email address, telephone number or IP address. It does not include data where an identity has not been given, or where it has since been removed (anonymised).

We will always ensure that the personal information we hold about you will be:

  • Collected only for valid purposes that we have clearly explained to you and not used in any way that is incompatible with those purposes.

  • Relevant to the purposes we have told you about and limited only to those purposes.

  • Accurate and kept up to date.

  • Kept only as long as necessary for the purposes we have told you about.

  • Kept securely.

How is your personal information collected?

We collect personal information through the enquiry and application process, directly from yourself. This includes when you:

  • Search for a comparison quote.

  • Create an enquiry on our website.

  • Request further information.

  • Request marketing information to be sent to you.

  • Provide feedback via email or other contact mechanisms.

We may sometimes collect additional information from third parties to further verify your identity to meet our financial compliance obligations, including credit reference agencies or other background check agencies.

3. The kind of information we hold about you

We do not collect, store or use any cookies other than essential first party cookies. We do not use digital browsing information other than your IP address. The online advertising platforms may make other information, such as key words or your search terms, available.

We will collect, store, and use the following categories of personal information about you:

  • Personal details including but not limited to, title, name, date of birth, gender, marital status, dependents, National Insurance number.

  • Contact details such as your postal address, telephone numbers and email address(es).

  • Close family members and dependants where it forms part of your application (please note it is your responsibility to ensure you have permission to share this information).

  • Financial information including but not limited to bank account details, payroll records and tax information, salary, pension and benefits information.

We may also collect, store and use the following special categories of more sensitive personal information (usually in order to provide you with an enhanced quotation). Appropriate storage and security measures will be applied to these sets of data and, where required, we will always seek your consent to process and store them – please be aware that if your enquiry is specifically for an enhanced annuity, we will not be able to provide you a quote without this information:

  • Information about your health, including medical conditions and treatments; your race or ethnicity; your sexual orientation.

4. How we will use information about you

We will only use your personal information for the purpose we notified you of when we collected it. If we need to expand that purpose, we will let you know and seek your consent if we need to unless the information is required to comply with a contractual or legal obligation, or in order to protect either your interests or as an official matter of public interest.

The situations in which we utilise your personal information includes, but is not limited to:

  • To register you as a new enquiry and provide initial quotations.

  • To administer your application, share your information with our financial services partners as part of the quotation process, and to perform our contractual business obligations.

  • As part of any legal obligation, for example, to detect and prevent fraud; to monitor compliance with the law and financial regulatory requirements.

  • To manage our relationship with you on an ongoing basis.

  • To provide marketing communications about relevant products and services unless you have indicated you would prefer us not to.

5. If you fail to provide personal information

If you choose not to provide certain information when requested, we may not be able to perform the contract we have entered into with you (such as completing your quotation). We will advise you where this situation should arise.

6. Who we may share your data with

We may share your data internally with Gravitate Digital Limited by way of provision of services – for example, for IT, customer relationship management, marketing and administration purposes.

We will share your personal information with our panel of financial services providers in order to provide the relevant comparison quotation you have asked for.

We will share your data with third parties where required to by law; where it is necessary to administer the working relationship with you or where we have another appropriate legal basis under data protection law for doing so.

Where we share your data, we ensure that the third party also has the appropriate technical and security measures required by law to ensure the safe transfer, storage and use of your data.

We remain as a Controller of the data at all times. Note that where an application is completed with one of our panel of financial service providers, they will then become a Controller in their own right and you should always check their own privacy notice(s).

Additional examples of the types of companies we share your data with includes but is not limited to:

  • Regulators such as the Financial Conduct Authority, or other authorities such as the police or HMRC where required by law.

  • Professional advisors such as auditors.

Data is stored and transferred only within the UK or European Economic Area.

7. How secure is it, and how long will you use my information for?

We have the appropriate technical and organisational measures in place to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and security of your information. In the unlikely event that a breach is suspected, we have procedures in place through which to manage the incident. We will notify you and the relevant regulatory bodies where we are required to do so.

We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

In some circumstances we may anonymise your personal information so that it can no longer be associated with you, in which case we may use such information without further notice to you.

8. What rights do I have over my data?

You have several rights under data protection law as to the access, management and deletion of your data where it is possible.
